about

Eternal Groove Productions and EGP Records CD release from bay area world/jazz staple Russell Ives (Naked Earth, Wig Salad). 'Bandwidth' represents Ives' latest venture into texturally rich cultural hybrids, combining earthy rhythms with tales of personal and spiritual quests. Inspired by his travels to Africa, Europe and Central America, the album is a groov'n tribute to future generations of conscious listeners everywhere. Backed by a stellar cast of the Bay Areas finest musicians (Derek Smith – Drums, Percussion, Steel Pan, Vibes; Russell Simon – Bass; Ben Jacobs – Keyboards; James O’Dell – Saxophone; Stephen Vahle – Congas, Timbale, Percussion, Murray Low – Piano; Alan Tower – Digeridoo, Huaca; Mighty Dave Pelicaro – Hammond B3; Tomas Vahle – Fula flute), Ives’ 10 original compositions take the listener on a musical journey around the world filled with lush soundscapes, hypnotic melodies and soaring vocal harmonies.

The salsa tinged El Nino Adentro sizzles with eccentric Saxophone and Piano solos. The enticing melody and honest writing makes this a tune that will soon have the listener singing along. The Jazz infused Sweet Life features Ives, O’Dell and Jacobs as they stretch out with their signature improvisational jams. African influences drive the vocal and rhythmic thickness of Karibuni Sana and Oyaye and culminate in the wild world beat fusion of “Move On”. . The presence of Live in the Now is filled out with the growling organ of the ubiquitous 'Mighty' Dave Pelicaro and Ives’ dueling electric mandolin solos.

Bandwidth launches us into an exotic adventure with a surprising mix of songs from the heart and rhythms from the earth.
